Dr. Mimi Sayed has documented her testimony about some of the tragedies and humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip due to the war that Israel launches, while volunteering there to work as an emergency doctor between August and December 2024, but she chose 5 cases that embody the horror of that tragedy and interceded for some numbers that summarize some of what the Gaza Strip is currently going through.
The American doctor stated that the following five tragedies disturb her and their beds:
- Sami, 8 years (December 14, 2024, Al -Aqsa Hospital):
Sami was severely injured in the face of the explosion of missile fragments, which led to the dislocation of his jaw and the tear of vital parts of his mouth, nose and eyelids.
His condition was very critical, he was emerging and suffocating the voice of Qaraqra and suffocating in his blood. Because of the large number of serious injuries, placing a loyal on the floor to make room for patients with worse injuries. His mother begged hard to work to save his life.
While Sayed succeeded in making his condition stable enough to conduct a CT scan in another hospital, his survivors were described as a miracle. The medical team lacked blood supplies and surgical resources to treat his injuries completely, and how happy Sayed was when his mother grabbed her hand the next day and pointed to Sami while he was on a hospital bed and was still alive.
- Mira, 4 years (August 25, 2024, Nasser Hospital):
Mira arrived and a bullet has settled in her head, a injury that usually leads to the decision not to treat due to the severe shortage of resources and a lack of brain surgery. Despite the prevailing protocol, the master chose to intervene, as Mira’s condition was stabilized and undergone brain surgery and the bullet was removed, which saved her life in a phased life.
However, Mira still needs a continuous treatment for head pressure and medicines, suffering from weakness on the left side, and her family tent later was bombed, and her mother lost her arm. Sayed carried the image of the X -ray of Mira to Washington to call for the end of support to Israel, but she was questioning the validity of her words.
- Shaban, two years (December 24, 2024, Al -Aqsa Hospital):
Shaaban died due to liver failure caused by hepatitis A, a preventive and treatment condition in developed countries. His illness caused the destruction of sewage and water networks in Gaza, which led to severe pollution of drinking water.
He needed a liver transplant, but his family was unable to obtain a permit from Israel to leave Gaza to perform the operation. The master describes his skin as “dark” and his eyes were glowing and their color turned into neon orange due to the failure of the liver.
- Fatima, 29 years old (December 23, 2024, Al -Aqsa Hospital):
A mother of three young children (all under the age of seven), Fatima was suffering from breast cancer in a very advanced stage, whose condition was diagnosed 7 months ago, but she was unable to undergo surgery or chemotherapy due to war and collapsed health system.
Although the World Health Organization agreed to its medical evacuation, Israel rejected its request, or delayed permits. “It was clear that her cancer is remedied. In any other country, or even in Gaza before October 7, 2023, she had received health care and healed, but now we can no longer do anything,” Fatima died on the day when she was referred to another hospital.
- Alaa, 8 years (December 4, 2024, Al -Aqsa Hospital):
Alaa was playing in front of her tent when she was hit by an air strike with shrapnel that penetrated her skull, revealing her brain. According to the medical protocol in Gaza, her condition was considered “hopeless”.
However, affected by her father’s despair, the master of a laparoscopy used a smuggler to secure the airway, and immediately transferred her to the operating room, saving her life.
But Alaa remained needed other surgery to protect her brain, which is a process that is not available in Gaza, to remain waiting for the evacuation.
Sayed talks about the difficulty of saving the lives of the injured in Gaza, saying, “Alaa may die tomorrow, her brain is exposed, and her may be under the rubble or as a result of an infection,” and so many are in Gaza.
These are some of the numbers that Sayyid mentioned in her testimony:
Bad nutrition: “At least 10,000 children have deteriorated to malnutrition that requires treatment” due to Israel’s prevention of entry to food.
Disclosure: “Nearly a third of Gaza population has been forced to leave their places of residence” in recent weeks. All population is now gathered in only one -fifth of the sector. More than 630,000 people have been displaced during the two and a half months that have passed since the previous shooting was violated.
Attacks: “The Israeli army targets hospitals and clinics intensively (28 attacks within a week).”
Civil injuries: An attack on Fahmy Al -Jarjawi School killed 31 people, including 18 children and 6 women.
Gaza residents: “More than 50% of Gaza’s population is children.”
Durable areas: “More than 80% of the sector is under direct Israeli control or under eviction.” Recently, 43% of Gaza was ranked as a “dangerous fighting zone.”
Aid flow: Resuming aid “at its lowest levels”, with “a few dozen trucks entering the Karam Abu Salem crossing daily.”
Children’s education: Children “have not gone to school for nearly two years.”
Water pollution: Sayed witnessed the death of a 8 -month -old girl as a result of drinking contaminated water, as she indicated the death of 8 children due to low body temperature in the winter, and a 9 -year -old girl died due to the inability to obtain the usual epilepsy medications.
General notes: Sayed announced the “killing of dozens of children” during her two rounds, she treated “at least 18 children with gunshots in the head or chest” during one month during her first trip, noting that most of them are children under 12 years of age, and it seems that she is intentional shots, she said.
