Muhannad Mustafa, academic and expert in Israeli affairs, said that the recent statements of Israeli and American officials carry important dimensions related to the Iranian triangle of Israel and the United States.
He explained in an interview with Al -Jazeera Net that Israel is aware from the beginning that the United States is using it as a pressure tool for Iran to sign a nuclear agreement, by threatening an upcoming Israeli attack if the talks fail.
He added that the US administration is working to spread or leak talks with Israel to deliver a message to Iran that the alternative to the agreement will be a major Israeli military strike targeting the general public and its nuclear project in particular.
Mustafa said that Israel is aware of this method, but in return it benefits from it without Washington’s knowledge, as these leaks are strengthened by the legitimacy of launching an Israeli military attack on Iran if nuclear talks fail.
He stressed that Israel is actually preparing for this attack, and even eager to implement it, noting that it is a wide political consensus within Israel, and most importantly, it enjoys support from the Israeli military establishment, which represents a major shift as this institution was preserving such an attack in the past and supported the 2015 nuclear agreement, before the American President withdrew from him Donald Trump In 2018 at the incitement of the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Mustafa explained that this position has changed today, as the military establishment is supporting the implementation of an attack on Iran, but Israel will not do so without explicit American approval.
He added that the Israeli estimates indicate that the talks will fail and that Israel will not wait long after that to carry out the attack, especially with the approaching date of the Israeli elections, whether it took place on the time scheduled for October 2026, or was presented if the Knesset is resolved as a result of the continuous crisis on the law of recruitment of Haredim.
