Israeli sources – Saturday – reported progress in the ceasefire negotiations and the release of detainees in Gaza StripIn light of an expected visit to the Israeli Minister of Strategic Affairs Ron late To Washington.
The Israeli Broadcasting Corporation, quoting sources, said that despite the progress made, this did not reach the stage of sending a negotiation delegation.
The sources stated that the main dispute revolves around the conditions of ending the war, and the guarantees demanded by the Islamic Resistance Movement (agitation).
The Israeli “Walla” website stated that Dermer’s expected visit to Washington aimed at holding talks on the ceasefire in Gaza and Iran, and to coordinate a prospective visit to the Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu To the White House.
For its part, the Haaretz newspaper quoted an informed official that the White House said that the date of Netanyahu’s visit to Washington is conditional on the progress of talks with Dermer on ending the war.
American optimism
The newspaper added, quoting a White House official, that the Americans will inform Dermer of the necessity of ending the war and saving the living prisoners, and that Hamas can be dismantled later.
The US official said that Washington is optimistic about ending the war and the release of Israeli prisoners, but it has not yet been clear that it insisted on pressure on Israel.
In turn, Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper quoted Israeli officials familiar with as saying that they did not understand the basis for the optimism of the American President Donald Trump Regarding the ceasefire in Gaza next week.
And Trump expressed – during a press conference on Friday – his belief that a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip between Israel, Hamas, will be reached.
Israeli officials told Yediot Aharonot newspaper that Trump’s statement surprised Israel, which had not been reported in advance of any change or progress that justifies the situation, and that there are no indications of flexibility or change in Hamas’s position, nor in Netanyahu’s position on ending the war.
Israeli meeting
In a related development, the Israeli Channel 13 reported that the leadership of the southern region is expected to hold a security meeting – Sunday – with the participation of the Prime Minister, Defense Minister Yisrael Katz, Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir and a limited number of ministers.
The channel indicated that the meeting will discuss the continuation of the “Gideon Vehicles” operation approved by the cabinet last May “to achieve the military decisiveness in Gaza.
The channel quoted the army sources as saying that the message of the political leadership was clear and explicit, which is that the process in Gaza is approaching its ends and exhausting its goals, and that there are no longer ground targets that can be achieved without endangering the lives of the detainees.
“An opportunity for a truce”
On Friday, Qatar Foreign Ministry spokesman Majid Al Ansari told the French Press Agency that the mediators are communicating with Israel and Hamas to benefit from the ceasefire between Iran and Israel this week in order to push towards a truce in the Gaza Strip.
“If we do not take advantage of this opportunity and this momentum, it will be a lost opportunity among many opportunities that have been available in the recent past, we do not want to witness this again,” Al -Ansari said.
