With high temperatures and increased traffic density, the air conditioner in the car becomes an indispensable necessity. However, this system, which provides comfort in driving, may turn into a source of unpleasant odors and pollutants, if not maintained and cleaned regularly.
The car magazine “Auto Zeitung” reported that fungi and bacteria, which accumulate in the components of the air conditioner, pipes, or inside the cabin filter, are among the most prominent reasons for the emission of unwanted odors when the air conditioning system is operated.
Health damage
These fungi and bacteria can lead to real health damage, especially those with allergies or respiratory weakness. For this reason, it is recommended to clean and sterilize the air conditioner periodically.
The German magazine explained that this problem is often due to the accumulation of dust and dirt in the internal air filter or ventilation channels, in addition to the condensation of moisture, which constitutes an ideal environment for the reproduction of bacteria and fungi, which release disturbing odors when the air conditioning system is operated, and may lead in the long term to respiratory purity or allergic symptoms, especially children, elderly or who suffer from respiratory diseases.
Special sprays
“Otto Zeitung is that sterilization of the car air conditioner is an effective and rapid means of eliminating the causes of these scents, explaining that the sterilization process is usually done using special sprays sprayed inside the ventilation holes or through clouds, whether external or internal.
The steps usually start removing the pollen filter, then opening the windows and running the fan at the highest degree without running cooling or heating. Then, sprinkle the spray inside the specified holes while maintaining the system in the position of “outer air”. After completion, it is preferable to run the fan for an additional minutes until the system is completely dried.
There are also alternative means, such as what is known as “air -conditioned bombs”, which are packages that are activated inside the closed car and released a sterile vapor through the entire system. This method is characterized by ease of use, but it often does not reach the effectiveness of direct spraying, especially in cases of extreme accumulation of dirt or mold.

When should the sterilization be made?
German experts recommended the sterilization at least once a year. In the event that the car pillars abroad for long periods or in the event of an allergy or respiratory diseases in the car users, it may be preferable to sterilize the system every 6 months.
The possibility of moisture inside the system can also be reduced by turning off the air conditioner a few minutes before the end of the trip, while keeping the fan works to dry the channels.
It is also important for the user to realize that sterilization alone is not sufficient to ensure the work of the air conditioning system efficiently and safely, so replacing the internal filter regularly and monitoring the level of cooling liquid and verifying the safety of pipes and connections, all of which fall within the comprehensive maintenance system that it is recommended to conduct at least every two years at a specialized maintenance center.
In sum, sterilization of the air conditioning system in the car is a simple procedure, but it is very important to maintain a healthy and safe driving environment. Periodic care for this system is not only prolonged of its operational age, but also protects the car passengers from real health risks.
