The Brazilian Supreme Court sentenced a 17 -year -old man to steal a ball bearing the signature of the Brazilian star Neymar, during the riots that erupted in Brazilia on January 8, 2023.
Nelson Ribeiro Fonseca Junior, 34, was convicted of theft, in addition to other charges, including the coup and belonging to a criminal gang.
Judge Alexander de Morais confirmed that the defendants “participated” effectively in storming and looting the headquarters of the authority in the Brazilian capital, and thousands of supporters of the former right-wing president, Jayer Bolsonaro (2019-2022), participated in these riots, a week after the left President Luis Inacio Lula Da Silva.
Judge Morais also emphasized that Fonseca Junior confessed to stealing the ball “and it is a unique fortune that is part of the general heritage of Brazil,” while his lawyers claimed that he took the ball to protect it during sabotage before he delivered it to the police after 20 days.
Fonseca also stole other things from the House of Representatives such as the Brazilian national team shirt, a technical plate, and a small helmet of the Brazilian Air Force.
The Santos Club, in which the Brazilian football star played at the beginning of his career before his return last January, gave the football signed by Neymar to the House of Representatives in 2012, and was shown in one of the corridors of Parliament.
More than 500 people were convicted of participating in riots, and some were sentenced to prolonged prison, while Jayer Bolsonaro faces a trial before the Supreme Court on charges of attempting to coup to preserve his authority despite his defeat in the 2022 elections.
