On Tuesday, France handed over Senegal a military base that its army was using, as part of the withdrawal of the French forces from the West African countries.
A president announced Senegal Bashir Diomae Fi late last year that France, the former colonial force, must close its military bases in Senegal by 2025, as part of a mechanism that began to be implemented in March with the delivery of the first establishments to the Senegalese authorities.
Beverage France Yesterday, a military communications center is located in the city of Rovis, near Dakar, according to a statement by the French embassy in Senegal.
The center, according to the statement, was “responsible for communications on the southern coast of the Atlantic since 1960”.
After its independence in the year 1960, Senegal remained one of France’s most reliable allies in Africa.
But Fi, who took power in 2024, pledged to treat France as any other foreign partner.
As a result, all Senegalese employees who work for French forces in Senegal are scheduled to be demobilized as of July 1.
