The Kofidis team announced today, Sunday, 11 of its expensive bikes were stolen during the night before the start of the second stage of the France bicycle race. Which started yesterday, Saturday, in the city of Lille. This caused a total loss of 100,000 euros.
The team estimates the cost of each bike at about 13 thousand euros.
The team said in a statement: “The truck door was opened by force, and our own lock bikes were stolen, despite the security measures.”
He added: “The Kofidis team strongly condemns this uncivilized incident and calls on its perpetrators to act with preparation and responsibility.”
The team indicated that the police officers visited the hotel to document the theft and started their investigations.
The team, which is taking a place near the night of its headquarters, has enough bikes to start the second high-slope stage, which is 209.1 km from “Lovan-Palank” to “Boloni-Sur-Mir”, but condemned the theft process.
The stealing of bicycles is common during races, and it represents a nightmare for the teams due to the large number of demand for them, as the price of one bike reaches 20 thousand euros.
Last year, 11 bikes of the “Totalenergies” team were also stolen during the France bike race, after opening their truck in front of their hotel in Le Lyran (Cantal).
The Dutchman Matteo Van Der Boyle grabbed the Alabin team, winning the Slovenian champion Tadi Bugatchcash in the second stage of France’s Tour of Bicycles after an exciting struggle in “Bolon-Sur-Amir” today, Sunday.
