The US Department of Defense (Pentagon) requested that $ 130 million in the budget of the fiscal year 2026 to support Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and other Syrian factions.
A document issued by the Pentagon showed that the allocated amount aims to finance training and preparation programs to combat ISIS And to provide salaries to the fighters of Qasd, along with the “Free Syrian Army” forces deployed in the south of the country.
The financial support requested by the US Department of Defense included more than $ 7 million in favor of the “Free Syrian Army” faction, noting that its operations can be expanded against ISIS cells in the Syrian Badia region.
The document warned that reducing this type of support may allow the Islamic State to regain its activities, which may pose a threat to the security of American countries and interests in the region.
The same document showed that the volume of American support for these factions in Syria is gradually declining, reaching $ 156 million in the 2024 budget, then decreased to 147 million dollars in 2025, to decrease again to 130 million dollars in the 2026 budget project.
The United States has always supported the Syrian Democratic Forces with money and weapons, as it considers it the spearhead in combating the Islamic State, which in 2014 took control of large areas in Syria, 5 years later.
Recently, US officials talked about the withdrawal of 500 American soldiers and the closure of 3 bases in Syria as part of a plan to reduce the forces to a thousand soldiers by the end of this year.
However, officials of the Syrian Democratic Forces reduced the importance of this step, noting that what is going on is a process of spreading and not withdrawal.
It should be noted that on the tenth of last March, the Syrian President signed Ahmed Al -Shara The Commander in Chief of the Syrian Democratic Forces Mazloum Abdi An agreement that requires the integration of “SDF” forces into the Syrian army and other state institutions, and to emphasize that the Kurdish society is an inherent component of the people and the state.
The agreement included the inclusion of all the area under the control of “SDF” within the wings of the new Syrian administration, including crossings, airports and oil fields, as well as the return of the displaced Syrians to their towns and villages in northeastern Syria, provided that the implementation of the agreement is completed before the end of this year.
