The majority of the European Union countries demanded more changes to the Anti -Forest Removal Law in the bloc, noting that some of its producers cannot expect to adhere to its terms and face an inappropriate competition.
Among the 27 member states of the European Union, the ministers of cultivation of 18 countries sent a message to the commission on Monday, demanding that the European Union’s rules not be applied to countries that are considered low risk in the field of forest removal. They advised to abide by national measures.
“The requirements for excessive and refined care must be removed in countries where agricultural expansion does not significantly reduce the area of the forest,” said Reuters.
The letter added that “the possibility of fully tracking within the European Union market, which is required by regulations for all goods, will be very difficult, if not impossible for each other.”
The signed countries said that Brussels should consider postponing the launch of politics again, while formulating proposals to simplify the rules more.
The message was signed by Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia and Sweden.
The Forest Removal Law also applies to European Union exports, which prompted the 18 countries to express their concern that European producers may move abroad to avoid the additional cost of compliance with the rules.
Carbon -stored trees for carbon dioxide are a major reason for climate change. But despite the aggravation of extremist weather, the political will has diminished to impose strict policies to reduce emissions, as governments are afraid of financial costs.
Brussels actually postponed the launch of the project for a whole year, and the rules of reporting were reduced after the criticism of its merchant partners, including the United States and some European Union countries.
The UNHCR spokesman did not immediately respond to the Reuters comment request. The European Union policy in general aims to end 10% of the world’s forest removal associated with the consumption of the European Union for imported goods.
