Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki accused the Ethiopian government of misleading, against the backdrop of a message sent by Addis Ababa to United NationsIn which Eritrea is accused of fueling conflicts in the region. In an interview with a government television, Afouri described the message as “childish” and reflects an attempt by the ruling prosperity party to cover up what he considered “war preparations”, as he put it.
He added that the hopes that accompanied the arrival of the government of the Ethiopian Prime Minister Abi Ahmed were quickly faded because of what he described as the “reckless policies” pursued by Addis Ababa towards the region.

In the same context, Afwerki considered that the Ethiopian discourse towards his country is a declaration of war, despite what he described as Eritrea’s desire to build “solid bilateral” relations with the Ethiopian neighbor.
He also criticized the Ethiopian proposals on reaching a sea outlet, describing it as a “adventure behind external powers.” He pointed out that Ethiopia She had previously suggested that all its imports to the port of Asab, instead of the port of Djibouti, which Eritrea rejected out of respect for the principles of good neighborhood, he said.
The Eritrean President pointed out that the Ethiopian endeavors to obtain naval ports and rules in the Somaliland region and others come within the framework of what he described as “provocative and division policies”, stressing that these proposals are not “an authentic Ethiopian agenda”, as he put it.
Afourgi stressed that his country does not seek to confront, nor does it have regional ambitions, but it is ready to defend itself if it is exposed to any aggression. He also warned of what he called Ethiopian preparations for launching a “massive attack”, by buying drones, missiles and tanks, calling on the Ethiopian government to focus on dealing with its internal crises instead of “drawing into a futile war”, as he described.
