US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said on Monday that the next round of talks with China may include China’s purchases of Russian and Iranian oil, a step that will concentrate commercial negotiations into national security issues.
“Trade is in a good position, and it can now start discussing other things.
Russia and Iran oil
The American minister pointed out that “unfortunately, the Chinese are senior Iranian and Russian oil buyers subject to sanctions. So we can start discussing this.”
As the main buyer of Iranian oil, China provides a major lifestyle for Tehran in light of its economy’s affirmation of international sanctions. Beijing also buys energy from Russia.
Besent today threatened to take US measures against Russian oil buyers, pointing to a strategy, “whereby any country is subject to the sanctions of Russian oil subject to secondary customs duties of up to 100%.”

This means that Washington may impose heavy customs duties on countries that buy Russian energy exports.
“I would like to urge our European allies, who made strong statements, to follow us if we impose these secondary fees,” said Besent.
US President Donald Trump imposed new customs duties on allies and opponents alike, and in April Washington increased customs duties on its imports from Beijing, which responded similarly.
But after high -level talks in Geneva and London, the two largest economies in the world (the United States and China) have temporarily reduced customs duties until mid -August, as the talks continue between them.
Trump gave his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin – last week – 50 days to conclude a peace agreement with Ukraine, “otherwise he will face economic sanctions” described as “large -scale.”
