An official at the Palestinian Medical Relief Society warned in Gaza Strip Today, Tuesday, the exacerbation of the humanitarian catastrophe in the sector, stressing that the health and food conditions have reached the stage of complete collapse, in light of the continued siege and Israeli aggression for more than 20 months.
The island official told the island that about 41% of patients with kidney failure in the sector died as a result of the lack of medical capabilities after the stopping of dialysis departments in many hospitals.
He added that people are falling in the streets from the severity of hunger, in a scene that reflects the deterioration of living conditions, amid almost complete absence of basic food.
He pointed out that at least 76,000 children are officially registered that they suffer from malnutrition, warning that this number does not reflect the real number in light of the difficulty of reaching all cases.
Targeting aid centers
The official in the Palestinian Medical Relief Society accused the Israeli army of targeting the medical teams directly in the Strip, noting that the number of those who were martyred today near the aid center in the Natsarim axis rose to 17 martyrs.
He added that the total number of martyrs near the aid centers has so far reached 130 martyrs, in addition to about a thousand wounded, most of them civilians who were trying to reach food.
The official pointed out that the injuries that are recorded near the aid centers are fatal and direct, stressing that these centers have become an open square for targeting despite being humanitarian points.
Insufficient meals
Regarding the effectiveness of the aid centers, the official said that the meals being distributed in these centers are very simple and insufficient to meet the daily needs of civilians.
He stressed that the meal that citizens receive is very few compared to the size of suffering and the increasing need.
He stressed that the aid centers meet only 1% of the actual needs of the population, describing its current role as “purely propaganda”, and does not contribute to improving the deteriorating food situation.
These statements come at a time when the Israeli bombing continues on separate areas of the Strip, amid international warnings of the danger of starvation and the spread of epidemics among the displaced.
Since October 7, 2023, the occupation has imposed a strict siege on the Gaza Strip with the continued air and land bombing, which led to the destruction of health infrastructure and the deprivation of hundreds of thousands of civilians of food and clean water.
