Call Amnesty International Indian authorities to immediately stop the deportation of the Rohingya refugees forcibly, recognize them as refugees, and ensure their dignity and protection as required International law For human rights.
This coincided with the International Refugee Day, which falls on June 20 of each year.
According to Amnesty International, the Indian authorities deported about 40 Rohingya refugees, including children and elderly people, by forcing them to leave a ship belonging to the Indian Navy and giving them survival jackets before abandoning them in international waters near Myanmar.
In a separate incident, the authorities forced more than 100 Rohingya refugees to cross the eastern border to Bangladesh Without following any legal procedures or reviewing asylum applications.
Akar Patel, Chairman of the Amnesty International Board of Trustees in India, commented: India A haven for fugitives from persecution, but the recent government’s behavior of throwing Rohingya into the sea and deporting them without appropriate measures, is a betrayal of this ancient tradition.
He added, “History will judge the way in which the oppressed authorities treated when they knocked on our door in search of safety.”
On May 17, Rohingya had advanced a petition to the Indian Supreme Court to stop the deportations, but the court rejected the request without regard to the evidence.
“We live in constant fear of DeportationEven those who hold refugee cards from the commission are treating criminals. During the past months, many of my relatives and friends have been taken without warning and deporting them to Myanmar … How can the Indian government return us to the place of death in which it is almost certain? “
Rohingya in Myanmar faces one of the worst persecution campaigns since 2017, while tens of thousands in Bangladesh camps suffer from lack of food, shelter and health care due to the recent reducing humanitarian aid.
