The leaders of the BRICS Group discuss the common challenges related to climate change on Monday, at the end of their summit in Rio de Janeiro, and they are expected to demand the rich Western countries to finance efforts to reduce the repercussions of global warming emissions.

A joint statement of the leaders of the BRICS issued on Sunday confirmed that fossil fuels will continue to play an important role in the global energy mix, especially in developing economies.
In their joint statement, the leaders of the BRICS stressed that providing climate financing “the responsibility of developed countries towards developing countries”, which is the usual position of emerging economies in global negotiations.
The statement also touched on the group’s support for a fund proposed by Brazil to protect endangered forests as a means of emerging economies to finance efforts to mitigate the effects of climate change, exceeding the mandatory requirements imposed on countries rich under the Paris Convention concluded in 2015.
Two sources familiar with the discussions told Reuters last week that China and the UAE indicated in meetings with Brazilian Finance Minister Fernando Haddad in Rio de Janeiro that they intend to invest in the fund.
On Sunday, the opening of the BRICS summit presented the bloc as a fortress for multilateral diplomacy in a divided world, and the most prominent impact of the 11 member states, which represents 40% of the global product.
