In this context, social media platforms recently buzzed with videos published by an Egyptian youth known as “Captain Nour”, in which he warned of the possibility of an imminent disaster in the sea Mediterranean.
The captain claimed, through his records, that his warnings are based on information extracted from radar and measurement systems on board the ship he is working on, noting that he monitored a “strange movement” at surface frequencies.

Some met these warnings by skepticism, stressing that shipping ships do not have devices that monitor such changes.
On the other hand, others defended the captain Nour, noting that many of his previous clips were achieved, which increased the confusion of followers.
In the face of this controversy, the National Institute for Astronomical Research and Geophysics came out of his silence, where Dr. Taha Rabeh, head of the institute, told “Cairo 24”, saying, “What the captain mentioned is incorrect and exaggerated, and is not based on any scientific basis. Tsunami or earthquakes will not occur as a result of wave frequencies as claimed, and the height of the waves is normal in the Mediterranean. “

Bloggers suggested that what is happening of the waves is due to known natural factors such as severe monsoon (Lados) that provokes the waves in certain seasons of the year.
Experts and followers of the communication platforms advised the necessity of following up the official accounts of scientific bodies and the competent government agencies, and not to be drawn behind the exciting videos before verifying their authenticity through official sources.

At the conclusion of the controversy, the captain Nour deleted the original video, and came out with a new recording in which he explained that the commercial ships are equipped with advanced devices that monitor the warnings of the sea condition, stressing that his speech was a personal analysis in which he relied on high temperatures in the Mediterranean, and he did not refer to Egypt in particular.
