A statement issued by the Prison Authority told reporters that the leader of the drug smuggling gang “left the La Roca prison” under the police and the army, “as part of a delivery process.”

The name “Veto” was associated with the assassination of Fernando Villanvisensio, one of the most prominent candidates for the presidential election in Ecuador, in August 2023.
