The Japanese Meteorological Agency said today, Tuesday, that the country witnessed the highest temperature in June, while climate change resulted in severe free waves around the world.
The agency confirmed that the average monthly temperature in Japan in June was the highest of this month since the start of the registration of statistics in 1898.
The agency indicated that a strong high air pressure system continued over the area during June, which prompted the average monthly temperature to rise by 2.34 degrees Celsius from the normal rate.
Sea water temperatures off the coast of Japan were 1.2 degrees Celsius higher than the normal rate, to record the highest temperature since the start of the monitoring in 1982, the same degree of June 2024.
The agency issued warnings to the population, noting that the intense heat is expected to continue all over the country next month.
This announcement came at a time when scientists say that the change of climate caused by human activity increases the intensity, frequency and scope of heat waves.
Japanese weather experts warned that some weather conditions, such as high temperatures at certain times, should not be linked directly to climate change, but they indicated that they have noticed climate changes over many years, causing unexpected air phenomena.
Last year, Japan’s summer was the most hot, followed by the heated autumn since the temperatures began 126 years ago.
Experts warned that warm weather may cause cherry flowers in Japan before the usual, or in some cases not to open them at all, because the fall and winter were not cold enough.
The famous snow cover of Jabal Fuji was absent for the longest period ever last year, as it appeared only in early November, instead of early October as usual.
The rainy season ended in the western regions of Japan last week, almost 3 weeks before the usual, and summer was characterized by frequent and strong hurricanes that caused massive floods and severe free waves.
The high temperature in Japan comes in the context of a global free wave, as southern Europe is witnessing an unprecedented heat wave, with record degrees in Spain, Portugal and “climate shelters” in Italy and the heat “unprecedented” of its geographical scope in France.
The French capital, Paris, lives at maximum alert with air warnings throughout the continent, and the Summit of the Eiffel Tower was closed, and the orange warning was announced in 68 French regions out of 101. Companies were called to “protect their employees.” And almost 200 official schools announced a partial or complete closure on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday.
