The researcher and Jerusalem historian Ihab Al -Jallad said – in his interview with Al -Jazeera Net – that Bab Al -Rahma Cemetery It is the oldest among these graves, located along the eastern wall For Al -Aqsa Mosque. And includes among its sides the remains of the companions, Ubada bin Al -Samet, the ruler of Jerusalem during the reign of Caliph Omar bin Al -Khattab, and Shaddad bin Aws, in addition to a number of scholars, judges and martyrs Nakba 1948 andSetback 1967.
As for the Youssoufia cemetery, which is believed to date back to the Ayyubid era, it embraces the remains of ancient Jerusalem families who were living next to the Al -Aqsa Mosque, but today it is exposed to repeated attacks by the occupation authorities, which included the deduction of parts of them and converting them into “political targets” gardens, says Al -Jallad.
On the northern side of the Old City, Bab Al -Sahra cemetery, also known as the “Mujahideen Cemetery” or “Baqi al -Sahel”, which also originates in the Ayyubid era, is located, and includes the remains of Palestinian scholars, Mujahideen and historians, which are also threatened with settlement projects.
