The Minister of Energy Transition announced andsustainable development Moroccan Laila Benali, on Wednesday, that the projects of energy linking between the Kingdom and West Africa and Europe call for investments exceeding $ 25 billion, which requires strategic cooperation to reduce risks and ensure adequate financing from the public and private sectors.
The Minister stressed -during her participation in the ninth international conference of “OPEC” held in Vienna– On the Kingdom’s commitment to continuing the course of energy transition with confidence, ambition and making Ligament A platform for energy connection between Africa and Europe and a regional center for sustainable energy, as it puts.
The minister said that Morocco is required to double investments 3 times in renewable energies, 5 times in electricity networks, and 5 times also in traditional energies, on an annual basis, to keep pace with the increasing needs and achieve climate and development goals.
Benali talked about the importance of regional attachment to accelerate the energy transition, noting that the link between Morocco andAfrica Europe represents a strategic axis for the future of energy in the region.
The Moroccan Nigerian gas pipeline project is one of the most prominent energy linking projects, as it was announced in 2016 during the visit of the King of Morocco Mohammed VI to Nigeria In December of the same year.
The gas pipeline will extend along a length of approximately 5660 km, and will be built in stages to respond to the increasing need for the countries from which it will cross and Europe.
The pipeline is scheduled to pass through several Western African countries, including: Benin, Togo, Ghana, Cote d’Ivoire, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Guinea, Guinea Bissau, Gambia, Senegal and Mauritania, to Moroccan territory.
