The Spanish newspaper “Marca” reported that the Belgian goalkeeper Thibu Courtois signed with his team Real Madrid The renewal agreement is scheduled to expire on June 30, 2026.
The final agreement between the two parties includes extending the contract for one season, or until 2027, without any option on the number of matches or any other conditions for a possible second season.
The Belgian international goalkeeper will start the season on August 4 with his new contract with Real Madrid, which he joined from Chelsea in 2018 for 35 million euros.
There were expectations that the agreement would include a contract for one season, in addition to an optional contract based on the presence of the goalkeeper in the basic list, but Real Madrid did not limit its basic base that stipulates the extension of the contracts of players over the age of 32 years for 12 months.
Courtois participated in 288 games with the Royal Club, and kept his nets in 113 games, crowned 3 titles in the Spanish League and two Champions League titles.
Courtois missed most of the course of the 2023 season after suffering an injury in the front cruciate ligament in August, but he returned and participated in the Champions League final that Real Madrid won 2-0 on Borussia Dortmund in June 2024.
