Khartoum- The intensity of the citizens in the Omdurman market increased in Sudan After the return of work with many transportation situations, and more than a year has passed since the army recovered to the old neighborhoods of the city, but merchants face the challenge of providing water and electricity.
The development of the Omdurman Market – which was established in 1917 – did not reach the old heritage form where the alleys and antique buildings.
The Omdurman Market was the most crowded before the outbreak of the war in Sudan.
Cautious optimism
The cosmetic trader shows God, Muhammad Al -Amin, optimistic about the improvement of the conditions in the market, with increasing the movement of customers and goods, and indicates that the conditions have now differed completely with the increase in the market level of the market on a daily basis.
He says in an interview with Al -Jazeera Net, “months ago I was the only shop that works on the street, but now dozens of merchants have come to work, especially after most transportation lines are to work,” he says in an interview with Al -Jazeera Net.

Fears
Al -Jazeera Net monitored the presence of dozens of transportation vehicles in the position of the martyrs – one of the largest situations in the Omdurman market – with a large movement for citizens, while “Dokkara Street” stores are still closed, which is one of the most famous streets selling clothes and shoes in the capital Khartoum.
And God’s payment says that many merchants are afraid of returning to work in the market and entering their goods because tax employees are waiting for them despite the government promises they received with tax exemptions as a result of their commercial activity stopping for more than two years.
And he talks about a slowdown in the restoration of electricity and water, despite the passage of more than a year since the market is free from Rapid support forces.
On the other hand, one of the senior suppliers in the Omdurman market told Al -Jazeera Net that the fears of the merchants from the tax authorities are unjustified, and attributed this to the fact that those who were required to pay were the ones who transferred their activities during the war period to the other states and did not stop working, while those whose stores were destroyed and their activity was stopped, they were not required to do with these taxes.
The supplier – who preferred not to be named – adds that the largest achievement achieved is the security of security, and he expressed optimism about the return of the movement of the market to its previous era within a short period, provided that electricity and water is provided.
The supplier excludes the market re -planning in a modern way, as the authorities will find it difficult to persuade the owners, as well as the preparation process needs huge funds that are not available to the state because of the war that led to the cessation of revenues.
And he confirms that the return of the market to the activity needs the concerted efforts of traders and local authorities, stressing that this market is a source of revenue for the Omdurman locality, as it is the largest and provides the markets of all states.
High prices
Citizens who spoke to Al -Jazeera Net complain about the high prices, but they see in return that the return of work in the ancient market and the resumption of commercial movement is tantamount to the return of the soul to Omdurman despite the absence of many shops famous for the market.
On a tour of Al -Jazeera Net in the market “leather and anaters” market, the landmarks of the market completely disappeared and became an impact after an eye after most of its stores were completely destroyed. It was before a destination for the shopping of foreign tourists.

Stressive start
The retailer Mustafa Sharif, who returned to the Omdurman market, says that the beginning was stumbling, so there are no customers, but he said in an interview with Al -Jazeera Net that the situation “has improved a lot now and every day is better than what precedes it.”
Traders who spoke to Al Jazeera Net believe that the biggest problem they face is to provide electricity and water.
Mustafa Al -Sharif, the owner of the clothing store, says that the return of transportation positions and security provides contributions significantly increasing the movement of customers.
After the great destruction and looting and theft that the Khartoum markets were exposed to during the war, the Omdurman market traders are one of the largest markets in the country to launch again after they lost all their savings amid the challenges of providing services in the market and rebuilding it.
