Today, Tuesday, an appeals court in the Algerian capital has proven the 5 -year prison sentence against the French -Algerian writer Boualam Sankal, who was imprisoned in Algeria for more than 7 months, in the midst of a major diplomatic dispute between Paris And Algeria.
The President of the Court spoke to Sankal after reciting the ruling, saying, “The court of the Court of First Instance has been confirmed … You have 8 days to resume before the Court of Cassation.”
The new French lawyer for writer Pierre Corinott -Gentil, who arrived in Algiers in the past days, refused to comment on this possibility in response to a question by the French Press Agency.
“I have no comment, I should visit my client to discuss the possibility of appeal,” said the 80 -year -old lawyer, that he “met yesterday (Monday), and he is fine.”
Singon was sentenced to the Court of First Instance on March 27 to 5 years in prison after being convicted of violating the integrity of the unity of the homeland, due to statements made in October for a French -right -to -right media, “Frontierier”.
The trial of Sankal was charged on charges of “prejudice to the unity of the country, insulting a regular body, and carrying out practices that harm the national economy and possess videos and publications that threaten security and national stability”, which are crimes stipulated in the Penal Code.
The verdict appealed both Sanasal and the public prosecutor, who was 10 years in prison for him.
French hope
For his part, the French Prime Minister expressed Francois BayroToday, Tuesday, his hope for a presidential amnesty was issued after the assertion of the ruling on Sakal, who obtained French citizenship a few months ago.
And if the issue of Sakal is gaining great importance in France, where he received an intense campaign of political and media support, especially from the extreme right -wing at the same time to Israel, then in Algeria it is not considered a widely known writer.
The writer’s pro -Israel’s positions, which were re -published on social media, have gained the hostility of the Algerian public opinion that sympathizes with the Palestinian cause.
