Mobile kitchens

The Khartoum kitchen initiative oversees a number of mobile kitchens, which prepare food in more than 50 sites throughout the Sudanese capital, and about 1,200 meals are distributed for each site, in a wide range of Jelly and Al -Saqai regions in the north to Jabal Al -Awliya in the south and the group in the west, in addition to neighborhoods Omdurman Old.

Imad Al -Din Farah Al -Sheikh says that with the reasonable improvement in the conditions of displacement and the growing return, the initiative has opened to other business efforts that included the provision of medicine and intravenous solutions and the rehabilitation of wards in Omdurman Teaching Hospital.

Improve the situation

The twentieth young man, Mohamed Salah, is supervising the initiative of the people of the region, distributes dishes and utensils to prepare breakfast in preparation for their distribution to the targets, sometimes families send representatives to receive their meals, and sometimes Salah takes the distribution himself according to the requirements of each family.

Salah tells Al -Jazeera Net that the beginning of his work was a volunteer with a number of activists in September 2023 after the conditions of the region worsened south of Khartoum as a result of the war, as it spread and expanded Rapid support forces The movement prevented, forcing the initiative to rely on smuggling to provide food to cover the needs of the population.

It is remembered that during the height of the war, they were only about 20 meals per day distributed to families, but this situation has changed and the hospice became approximately 300 meals per day, and it was obligated to adhere to the increase in the number of meals in response to the increase in the number of families coming from the White Nile and other areas to the region that is now safe.

Although security is available in many areas of Khartoum, the problems of providing food are still urgent, as Salah says. In addition to the food, the initiative has moved to other aspects of no less important, which is providing health services, especially medicines.

On the support, Salah says that the situation improved in general with an increase in the percentage of contributions from several parties, including government institutions, which facilitated the stability of assistance to face the escalating increase in the numbers of returnees to their homes.

What contributed to transferring the work to an advanced stage is several factors, including stretching the degree of safety and the high ceiling of hopes by moving from the siege and the return of communication between the outskirts of the capital after the entire state is liberated from rapid support, as voluntary work groups re -arrange their priorities after the easy breakthrough in the gatherings of meal students in Omdurman and Khartoum.

The development of initiatives

In turn, Muhammad al -Fateh Majzoub says that his initiative, which started to feed in the shelter houses in the old Omdurman, and the locality of Karari, parts of Khartoum and Khartoum Bahri, has now tended to develop its aid.

Majzoub explained that the daily meal allocations and materials turned into baskets that include food needs such as sugar, flour and oil distributed through a qualitative choice for the needy families in the neighborhoods, or for some families with special conditions (chronic diseases).

He adds that the initiative that he sponsors is heading to the experience of small projects for the population in the popular neighborhoods in safe areas, to be the nucleus of income and return projects that facilitate their owners efforts to normalize their lives, in light of pressing living and service conditions.

But this ambition in developing these efforts for small projects or moving from direct feeding projects to in -kind materials requires – from an attractive point of view – great support does not seem now available.

He pointed out that the coordination of previous support for feeding projects was dependent on financial contributions from good supporters and shareholders through banking applications, which may not seem possible in the case of small projects, but the idea remains.
