Historical fantasy is one of the dramatic types that are not spread in the Arabic series in general, and it has been associated with the series “One Thousand and One Nights”, and recently“Goodir” In part.
But the director and author Peter Mimi recently knocks on this type through his series “The Kingdom of Silk”, which is shown on one of the modern Arabic platforms.
“The Kingdom of Silk” is directed and written by Peter Mimi, starring Karim Mahmoud Abdel Aziz, Asma Abu Al Yazid, Ahmed Ghazi and Amr Abdel Jalil, and it consists of only 10 episodes that are shown successively on the platform.
Plots, deception and love of Muharram
The series begins with an existing introduction to the events of the “Kingdom of Silk” that starts from the first murder, and the stories of the sons of Adam, Cain and Abel, and that we are the human beings of the murderer, then we jump to a parallel crime in which the Golden Prince (Amr Abdel Jalil) was killed by his brother, King Noureddine, and plans to kill his two sons, the throne of the king of the silk, and they are the two princes, Shams al -Din and Jalal al -Din, but one of the servants left Princess Jalila, as she is a girl, and her uncle will not care about killing her.
Things are more complicated when the servant is attacked by two roads, and each of them kidnaps a child with the aim of selling it, Shams al -Din (Karim Mahmoud Abdel Aziz) grows as one of the slaves of the Mamluk army, while Jalal al -Din (Ahmed Ghazi) arises between thieves and the roads of the roads and becomes one of them, but what distinguishes him from his brother is that the mountain of (Walid Fawaz) is the man who raised him as his Lord knows his son The secret.
While Jalila (Asma Abu Al Yazid) grows up in the royal palace, and the events begin with her wedding to Prince Suleiman, the son of the golden king (Youssef Omar), and her hatred towards the king, his son and her two brothers, who managed to escape from the palace and left it behind them.
Historical fantasy are fictional stories that combine history and fictional elements, combining magic or legendary creatures with the characteristics of the era in which events take place, and these works explore history through the traditional conflicts between good and evil.
In the “Silk Kingdom”, the conflict becomes more complicated, because the Kingdom’s goodness or heirs of the Kingdom face enemies at a point of events.
However, the makers of the series put events within the framework of the stories of the forbidden love, love and the conspiracies carried out by the women to drop the men of the tiles continuously, so that these plots are the main driver of events, especially the characters of Rehana (Sarah Al -Tunisi) and the great princess, one of whom does not hesitate to use her temptation and enter into forbidden relationships or kill her enemies violently as long as she will reach her goal in the end.
In the end, the series turns into a non -original version of the Turkish series “Harem Al -Sultan”, which in turn belongs to historical drama, and its events took place in the Sultan Suleiman’s Magnificent Palace, which is exposed all the time to conspiracies, while in the background the neighbor and the ladies of the palace.
Attempts to make an impressive image
Historical fantasy relies heavily on the dazzling spectators, from fashion, makeup to old decorations and newly visual effects, and the international series before the local, we find in series such as “Game of Thrones”, which are monitored for each of its episodes giant budgets for this amazing visual and auditory experience that it offers.
The series “The Kingdom of Silk” simulates the historical fantasy series, as much as possible, or as much as the capabilities available to the production process, we find clear interest in fashion design, the palaces in which events revolve, and the mixing of photography in real places and the use of visual effects, as the series’s makers in addition to the sound with soundtracks and songs that give a special nature to the series.
But the historical fantasy series does not only seek the visual and audio dazzling, but its basic strength is in the logical plot with tight escalation and perfect acting performance, which are elements that the series “Kingdom of Silk” missed to a large extent.
The series is characterized by the acceleration of events. For example, Jalal al -Din informs its reality relatively early for this type of series, and it may be due to the number of limited episodes, and this acceleration reflects at the same time the instability of the life of palaces and its unexpected violence as a result of the ongoing conspiracies.
But on the other side there are many events that were not established from within the series, so it seemed clearly surprising.
The representative performance represented a great weakness in the “Kingdom of Silk”, far from the performance of Karim Mahmoud Abdel Aziz – who was the best in the series in general – we find a very varying acting performance.
The fabrication and theatrical exaggeration prevails over the performance of the names of Abu Al -Yazid, Ahmed Ghazi and Sarah Al -Tunisi, as they seem all the time as if they are aware that they are performing complex roles in the series of historical fantasy, and they revive similar performances in other works.
As for Amr Abdel -Jalil, it was an unfamiliar choice for the role of the evil golden king and fought his brother.
Peter Mimi in the “Kingdom of Silk” returns to the historical fantasy that he presented before in the “Assassins” last year, but while the “Assassins” are the political biographies that do not combine the two series here except the use of visual influences excessively, the series does not provide a new reading of history or even the conflict between good and evil, and the events have been turned into a struggle brought from the “women’s plot”.
