The Governor of Bank Al -Maghrib said (Central Bank Al -Maghribi) Abdel -Latif Al -Jawahiri, today, Monday, that the bank is considering using its digital currency in payment operations from one person to another and in the financial transfers across the border.

A digital currency of the Central Bank is subject to its supervision and management, unlike encrypted currencies that are usually inappropriate.

Digital currencies have been banned in Morocco since 2017, but their use is still informally among individuals who resort to means of circumventing the restrictions imposed.

Al -Jawahiri added at a conference held in Ligament The bank works with IMF And the World Bank to assess the effects of the digital currency system for the Central Bank.

He explained that the Moroccan Central Bank -in cooperation with its Egyptian counterpart And the World Bank– The use of the digital currency of the Moroccan Central Bank is also studied in the cross -border transfers.

Last month, Al -Jawahiri said that there is a draft law on digital assets currently under review by the Ministry of Finance before entering the accreditation phase.

Last December, Al -Jawahiri said that his country would be among the first countries in the world to license cryptocurrencies.
