The story of the suffering of the Fluminness goalkeeper with “short sleep” syndrome sports

Fabio, the Brazilian goalkeeper Fabio, suffers from a strange and rare healthy phenomenon, but in reality it does not affect his performance in terms of sport.

Fabio and his team Fluminness are preparing to face Inter Milan and the European champion runner -up at 10 pm tomorrow, Monday, Mecca and Doha, in the final round matches of the World Cup for Clubs currently held in the United States.

Fluminness depends on Fabio, 44, to exclude Inter and continue his career in the World Cup, especially that he kept his net twice in the group stage of the group against Borussia Dortmund and South Africa, while he received two goals in the victory match against South Korean Hyundai 4-2.

For years, Fabio has been suffering from “short sleep” syndrome, and yet it is still classified as football players at the elite level, which is at this age, according to the Spanish newspaper “AS”.

Fabio goes to sleep in many days at dawn and then wakes up after 3 hours to deliver his children to school, and from there he goes directly to the training sessions, and at other times he does not sleep at all.

On that, Fabio stated in a previous interview with the Brazilian “Globo” network, “I went to sleep one day at four in the morning and woke up at the seventh.

“In the training classes, I do not perform muscle strengthening exercises and my colleagues are surprised by that and tell me this is harmful to my health. I was always wondering is this really true? Because I feel okay.”

“In a previous period (when he was a player in Cruzero) the team underwent a sleep test, and my examination results were excellent as I revealed that I slept very deeply. The little sleep that I got is sufficient to recover my body,” Fabio added.

“My physical nature helps me to recover quickly. I have always recovered quickly and trained extensively, so recovery is very important to avoid muscle injuries. Sometimes I sleep only 3 hours and sometimes I never sleep. I do not follow any special preparation. My faith in God is always the basis.”

Fabio is classified as people with short sleep syndrome, that is, a person who sleeps less than 6 hours a day without negatively affecting his daily activity.

Accordingly, Fabio belongs to a rare group of people, according to the specialist doctor Andrea Basillar, who talked about this phenomenon.

“The short sleep syndrome is very rare that affects less than 5% of the world’s population,” she said.

“During the day, these people feel a good physical and psychological state to continue their day, this is a case that is completely different from the voluntary deprivation of sleep that is considered a disease. These people are unlike Fabio’s condition, they feel tired and drowsy and always wake up in a bad psychological state.”

Fabio has been playing for Fluminness since January 2022, and has been crowned with the team with 4 titles, most notably Cuba Lipartadores alone in 2023.
