The French Press Agency stated that the government forces had received orders to withdraw before midnight and ended their withdrawal at dawn from As -Suwayda, while local Druze factions began to spread in the province.
The Ministry of Interior and Sheikh Youssef Al -Jarbou (one of the 3 most prominent spiritual references in As -Suwayda announced yesterday evening, Wednesday, a ceasefire agreement stipulated that all military operations be suspended immediately, and the formation of a monitoring committee from the Syrian state and Druze elders to supervise the implementation process.
The director of public relations at the Syrian Ministry of Defense, Uday Al -Abdullah, told Al -Jazeera that the sheikhs of reason and the Syrian state guarantee the implementation of the agreement, and that the state is counting on the seriousness of the sheikhs of reason and their national sense.
According to the text of the Ministry of Interior’s statement, the agreement requires an immediate and comprehensive stop for all military operations, and to deploy the internal security barriers and the police of the Syrian state with the participation of policemen from the people of As -Suwayda Governorate with the aim of enhancing security and protecting citizens.
And at dawn today, the Syrian President announced Ahmed Al -Shara It was decided to assign local factions and Druze clerics responsible for maintaining security in As -Suwayda after announcing the ceasefire in the province.
In his explanation of the reasons that led him to withdraw government forces from As -Suwayda and hand over security in this province to the Druze, Al -Shara explained that “this decision stems from our deep awareness of the seriousness of the situation on our national unity and avoiding the country’s sliding into a new widespread war” after Israeli raids on several sites in Syria, most notably Suwayda and Damascus.
He added, “We were between two options: the open war with the Israeli entity at the expense of our Druze people and their security and destabilizing Syria and the entire region, and giving way to the dignitaries and sheikhs of the Druze to return to their senses and prevail over the national interest.”
