A naval security source said that a ship bearing the flag of Liberia was attacked by a plane near Hodeidah in Yemen, noting that two people were wounded and two others were lost in the attack.
On Monday, the Houthis announced the implementation of an attack on the commercial ship “Magic Cies” in the Red Sea off the coast of Yemen, after two naval bodies on Sunday reported the incident that forced the crew to evacuate due to the damage.
The Houthi military spokesman, Yahya Sari, said in a statement published on Telegram that “the Magic Seas ship of a company that violated the ban on the ports of occupied Palestine was targeted, with two paths, five ballistic missiles, a waging, and three drones.”
This is the first Houthi attack on a commercial shipping ship in the vital marine corridor this year, while a ceasefire with the United States was announced in May by Omani and ended weeks of intense American strikes on Yemen.
In May, the Houthis confirmed that the Israeli ships will remain “vulnerable to targeting” in the waterways off Yemen, including the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden despite the armistice with the Americans.
He rapidly confirmed the injury of the “Magic Cies” ship directly and the water leakage to it, and that it is vulnerable to drowning, adding that the crew was allowed to leave, while the British Maritime Trade Operations Authority said that crew members were saved later by a passing commercial ship, and that they are all “fine.”
The “Magic Cies” ship raises the flag of Liberia, which is owned by a Greek company, according to a site that tracks the specialized ships “Marin Travik”, which made it clear that it was on its way from China to the Suez Canal.
Hours after the attack, the Israeli army announced at dawn on Monday that it had bombed targets in the coastal city of Hodeidah and other areas in Yemen under the control of the Houthis, who later responded by firing rockets towards the Hebrew state.
Israel said that its combat aircraft “struck and destroyed infrastructure” in the ports of Hodeidah, Ras Issa and Al -Salif, “in response to the repeated attacks launched by the Houthi terrorist regime against the State of Israel.”
Since the outbreak of the war between Israel and Hamas in Gaza, following an unprecedented attack by the movement on the Hebrew state on October 7, 2023, the Houthis have carried out dozens of missile attacks against Israel and against ships in the Red Sea who confirmed their association with Israel in the context of their support for the Palestinians.
Israel responded to the implementation of several strikes on the Houthi control sites in Yemen, including ports and airport in the capital, Sanaa.
