In a move he said it supports the goals of national security and the foreign policy of his country, he signed the American President Donald TrumpMonday evening, an executive order ending the sanctions against Syria, praising the new Syrian government, and affirming Washington’s commitment to supporting a stable and united Syria that lives in peace with itself and its neighbors.
Syrian Finance Minister Muhammad Yusr Burniyah described the lifting of US sanctions on Syria as a big and important step, which will reflect positively on the Syrian economy.
He explained that the lifting of the sanctions included more than 5 thousand Syrian entities, as it paves the way to break the economic blockade of the export of American services and goods to Syria, and directs a review of Syria’s classification as a country that sponsors terrorism, provided that the sanctions imposed on the ousted president remain. Bashar al -Assad Soincurign.
On the reasons for the American acceleration of the lifting of sanctions on Syria, the researcher at the Middle East Policy Center at the Brookings Institute, Stephen Hydeman, sees that there are two main factors:
– President Trump has great interest in strengthening relations with countries in the Arabian Gulf, especially Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the Emirates.
Secondly, the American administration believes that “a government Ahmed Al -Shara The temporary has taken a series of important steps for the United States, including interaction with Israel, “in addition to the issue of chemical weapons and combating what he called violent extremism.
On the Syrian side, an expert in international affairs, Bassam Tabliya, believes – in an interview with the “Beyond the News” program – that Syria responded to the American demands about fighting the Islamic State and searching for the body of an American journalist, as well as ending the Iranian presence on its territory.
He said, “The Syrian leadership has dealt with these demands completely and has cooperated seriously and honestly,” noting that the United States has an interest in lifting sanctions in order to fight the Islamic State and Iran and have a part of the economy and the reconstruction of Syria.
In the same context, Tabliya revealed that investment projects for many countries have entered Syria, including the United States.

From the point of view of the first researcher at the Al -Jazeera Center for Studies, Dr. meeting Makki, the issue is broader than American demands submitted to Damascus, as Syria with its strategic location and its geopolitical role in the region should be part of the new Middle East case, according to the American plan, and in this context he saw that the expulsion of the deposed President Bashar was within a broader context.
He pointed out that the American and even Israeli demands are not literal demands, such as the Syrian leadership, to expel the Palestinian factions now, but the matter is related to Makki – the role of Syria in the future, which is the role that will give them strength and negotiating position in the regional framework.
He also said that there are issues agreed upon between Damascus and Washington, which is terrorism and preventing Iran while working with Hezbollah, but there are issues that need discussion, including an issue The occupied Golan.
Normalization
Makki pointed out that there is no on the horizon to normalize between Syria and Israel, which was supported by Bassam Tabliya, who confirmed that the Syrian people are not ready to accept normalization with Israel, and that this matter requires time, and that there be negotiations on the occupied territory of the Golan, and concluded that normalization with Israel is premature.
The researcher at the Middle East Policy Center at the Brookings Institute also says that the United States hopes that “by replacing stability in Syria and supporting economic recovery, conditions will be more favorable for arrangements between Syria and Israel.”
However, the American guest explained that “the obstacles in the Syrian Israeli file are still very deep and serious, and I do not see that they can easily reach an agreement on the Golan issue.”
On the other hand, he said that Syria will continue to participate with the Arab partners in the informal coalition to maintain that Iran is not allowed to interfere in the region.
