Zambian President Hakaynde Hishilima inaugurated the largest solar power station connected to the country, in a move aimed at reducing dependence on electricity imports from neighboring countries, and strengthening renewable energy sources in facing the escalating climatic challenges.

The “Cisamba” station, which has a production of 100 megawatts, was built in central Zambia, by the Chinese company Power China, and the Canadian Mining Company Version Quantum Minirarals will be provided with energy, in reference to the growing relationship between energy and industrial investment projects.

“The drought witnessed in the country confirms the need to diversify the energy mix and rely more on renewable sources,” Hishleima said in a speech during the inauguration ceremony.

Zambia relies heavily on the electricity -generation electricity energy, but the recent droughts caused a decrease in the water level, prompting the government electricity company “Zicco” to apply the rationing programs in the distribution.
